Study Abroad
Dubai, UAE | Abu Dhabi, UAE | Muscat, Oman

At the end of Fall 2017, I attended the "Cultural Communication in the Arabian Peninsula" study abroad offered by CARTA. I had the amazing opportunity to visit breathtaking sites, like the tallest building in the world and the gorgeous Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and bond with both the students I traveled with and the locals.
I went with an open mind and heart. I tried foods that were entirely too spicy, wore clothing that challenged the Western ideal of beauty and met people that will forever have an impact on me. Every person- be it tour guide, presenter or even taxi driver- was more than welcoming and kind. I could see the genuine excitement they had in teaching us foreigners about their home and religion.

Executive Board
Biscayne Bay Campus Student Government Assoc. Chief of Staff
At my time at FIU, I had the opportunity to serve as a council member for the Biscayne Bay Campus' Student Government Council. My last year, I was appointed to the Chief of Staff position, and became a member of the executive board. As Chief of Staff, I was the liaison between the Executive Board and the Cabinet. I chaired Cabinet meetings, and oversaw the Cabinet members.

In Fall 2017, I was appointed by Dr. Lunsford, FIU's Vice President of Student Affairs, to serve on a Constitutional Review Committee for the SGA Constitution.

I was also voted "Council's Choice"at the annual BBC Leadership Banquet for both the 2017 & 2018 academic year.
Women Who Lead
2016 Committee Member

I had the immense pleasure to sit on the committee for the Women Who Lead Conference in 2016. I worked alongside amazing women who are passionate about empowering other women and inspiring them to take on leadership positions. We worked on the logistics for the conference on the Biscayne Bay Campus,

That year, Dr. Angela Davis was the keynote speaker. Even though my eyes were closed in my picture with her, it still is one of my favorite moments at FIU. Dr. Davis is an icon, and hearing her speak about race, politics and women in America was so inspiring and a highlight of my college experience.
I enjoyed going to the New York Times lectures at FIU. As a reader of the Times and a Journalism student, it was always great to meet exceptional journalists and hear their take on politics and the state of journalism, while also getting insight on what it's like to work for the paper. All three of the lectures mentioned above had a significant impact on me as a global learning student. I especially gained a global perspective during the Damien Cave lecture, where he spoke about reporting on international issues, like the Haitian earthquake of 2010. He explained journalist's roles in bringing the mass attention to issues, and how journalists can go beyond the call of duty: report on the issues and help fix it. Because of that lecture, when I choose stories to cover for my broadcast journalism courses, I make sure that they are stories that need to be heard by the masses and that they bring attention to issues facing the marginalized.
